Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about your horse's hoof care? Find answers to the most common questions below.

How often should my horse be trimmed or shod?

Most horses benefit from a trim or reset every 6 to 8 weeks. Horses in heavy work, those with hoof health issues, or horses in certain climates may need attention on a shorter cycle. We will assess your horse at the first appointment and recommend a schedule that fits their individual needs.

Do you offer therapeutic or corrective shoeing?

Yes. We work with horses dealing with laminitis, navicular syndrome, white line disease, and structural imbalances. We coordinate closely with veterinarians when a case requires a combined approach, and we have experience with foal and developmental hoof care as well.

What should I prepare before my appointment?

Please have your horse caught and haltered before the appointment time. A clean, dry, level surface to work on is ideal. If your horse has any known behavioral concerns or health conditions, let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly and keep the visit safe and efficient.

What is the difference between a trim and a full shoeing?

A trim involves removing excess hoof growth, balancing the hoof capsule, and shaping the foot without applying shoes. A full shoeing includes a trim plus the fitting and nailing of horseshoes. Whether your horse needs shoes depends on their workload, footing, hoof quality, and any soundness considerations.

Do you work with young horses or foals?

Yes. Early hoof care is one of the most important investments you can make in a young horse's long-term soundness. We offer developmental trimming for foals and work with owners to establish healthy hoof habits from the start. Early intervention can correct angular limb deformities and set the foundation for a sound adult horse.
